Reading Well helps you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing using self-help reading. The scheme is endorsed by health professionals and supported by public libraries. Health professionals involved in the book selection process never have any conflict of interest with the titles selected for each book list.
There are currently four book lists available: Reading Well for mental health, Reading Well for dementia, Reading Well for young people and Reading Well for long term conditions.
Reading Well was recognized by the Royal Society for Public Health as a finalist for the 2017 Public Mental Health and Wellbeing Award.
The Welsh Government are supporting the scheme in rolling out Reading Well in all 22 library authorities in Wales, beginning with Reading Well Books on Prescription for dementia as part of the new Dementia Action Plan for Wales. The scheme will be available in Welsh libraries from summer 2018. You can find out more about the scheme in English and Welsh here.
Download the user leaflet in both English and Welsh from our resources bank.
The books provide information and advice, support for living well, advice for relatives and carers, and personal stories. They are endorsed by health professionals and can all be found in the local library.
